Adult Volunteers

If students are the arms and legs of Work Camp, adult volunteers are its heart and soul. Work Camp could not operate without the hundreds of adult volunteers who give of their time and finances to support this ministry. But don’t think it’s all about giving! Every adult who participates in Work Camp is guaranteed to receive tremendous blessing from the time spent working with students and ministering to our City.

Interested? Here are the many ways you can participate:

• Work Site Leader – Participating churches are required to send Work Site Leaders to Work Camp in order to have students participate. A Work Site Leader guides and directs the activities of 8 –10 students on a Work Site during the three working days of Work Camp. Work Site Leaders must also do the pre-Work Camp preparatory work of visiting their assigned work to make contact with the homeowner, see what work needs to be done, plan the work, and contact their assigned students prior to Work Camp. During the week of Work Camp, teams of Site Leaders (3-4 per site) guide and direct the students in the work and manage the site. Work Site Leaders with home repair skills are a plus, but anyone with a heart for teenagers and for ministry is eligible. Work Site Leaders must be available the Monday night of Work Camp and all day Tuesday through Thursday. Application required (deadline: December 31). Application
• Sidewalk Club Leader – Participating churches are required to send Sidewalk Club Leaders to Work Camp in order to have students participate. A Sidewalk Club Leader guides and directs the activities of Sidewalk Club Campers as they put on Backyard-Bible-Club-type programs for children in the neighborhoods in which the work sites are located. Each team runs two Clubs per day. Sidewalk Club Leaders are expected to attend two pre-Work Camp meetings, and to volunteer to serve in one of the Sidewalk Club areas (crafts, snacks, music, drama, cleanup, etc.). Sidewalk Clubs Leaders must be available the Monday afternoon and evening of Work Camp and all day Tuesday through Thursday. Application required (deadline: December 31). Application
• Basketball Camp Coach – Participating churches are required to send Basketball Camp Coaches to Work Camp in order to have students participate. A Basketball Camp Coach guides and directs participating students as they teach and coach City kids in drills and mini-tournaments. A Basketball Camp Coach should have a knowledge of the game and love working with kids and teens. Basketball Camp Coaches are required to attend one pre-Work Camp meeting and to be available the Monday night of Work Camp and all day Tuesday through Thursday. Application required (deadline: December 31). Application
• Gofer (materials acquisition) – Gofers are the “legs” of a work site and critical to a work site’s ability to get its work done. Gofers are responsible for transporting students and materials to and from work sites and for acquiring needed materials during the three working days of Work Camp. Gofers work in teams of two and are assigned three to five work sites to service. Gofers must be available the Monday night of Work Camp and all day Tuesday through Thursday. Note that Gofers with pick-up trucks and vans are a plus. Application required (deadline: March 1). Application
• Base Leader – Base Leaders are responsible for supervising, mentoring and nurturing students from their church during evening Home Base periods. Crowd control and discipline are part of the role, but far more important is the Base Leader’s availability to students who need to share what they experienced during the workday, need to talk about how God is working in their lives or need to pray. Base Leaders must be available from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. the following morning on one or more days of Work Camp. Application required (deadline: March 1). Application
• Go 2 Guys – Go 2 Guys help maintain order and a Godly atmosphere at Home Base. They are responsible for enforcing the rules and providing information to students, adults and visitors. Go 2 Guys must be available for one of the following shifts on one or more nights of Work Camp: 6:00 to 8:30 a.m.; 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.; 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.; or 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Application required (deadline: March 1). Application
• Prayer Walk Leaders – Prayer Walk Leaders guide groups of Work Campers as they walk through the neighborhood praying for and with residents and businesses. Students consistently cite this ministry as one of the highlights of the week. Application required (deadline: March 1). Application
• Kitchen Crew – The Kitchen Crew is responsible for helping set up, prepare, serve and clean up after breakfast and supper during Work Camp. Volunteers can choose to serve the morning shift (5 – 8 a.m.) and/or the evening shift (3 – 7 p.m.). Application required (deadline: March 1). Application
• Nurses – Nurses help soothe cuts, scrapes and splinters, administer medications and deal with various medical issues that arise during Work Camp. Nurses should be available to serve during one or more of a variety of shifts (morning, afternoon, evening, overnight) during one or more days of Work Camp. Application required (deadline: March 1). Application
