What is Flower City Workcamp?

Flower City Work Camp is a ministry of Rochester-area churches that began in 1985 when a group of local youth leaders had a desire to see their students serve in a meaningful inner-City ministry and a desire to impact the City of Rochester with the life-changing message of Christ’s love.

Using Group’s Student Work Camps as a model, those youth leaders developed a Rochester-based ministry that reaches the City with God’s love in very practical ways: home repairs, Backyard Bible Clubs and Basketball Camp.

From a small start of a half dozen churches, fewer than70 students, and a handful of adult volunteers, Work Camp has grown to a ministry of over 40 churches, 500 students and hundreds of adult volunteers. Work Camp began with students working on City homes, but has expanded into Sidewalk Clubs, Prayer Walks and Basketball Camp.

Not only does Work Camp provide Jr. High and Sr. High students with a tremendous opportunity to serve God, a lot of effort and planning is also put into challenging the students to grow in their faith. Morning devotions and evening programs filled with worship, prayer, testimonies and teaching are designed to bring students into the presence of God and send them home energized, changed and strengthened.
